1856, Utagawa Hiroshige, Fukagawa Lumber Yards -- British Museum (London)
From the museum label: In this series Hiroshige experimented with eye-level subjects and European one-point perspective, drawing us into the scene. The bright yellow umbrella makes a striking contrast with the blue canal. Together with the red of the title and cartouches (small panels with writing), the white snow and black lines, it completes the five East Asian primary colours.
