1835 (ca.), Utagawa Hiroshige, Nihonbashi - Morning Scene -- British Museum (London)

From the museum label: As the morning sun rises, the procession of a daimyo (samurai lord) heads south across Nihonbashi or the Bridge of Japan. Nihonbashi was the first station on the Tokaido, and the point from which all distances in Japan were measured. Hiroshige, the son of one of the shogun's fire wardens, placed a fire watchtower in the background.
