1833 (ca.), Utagawa Hiroshige, Kingfisher and hydrangea; Crane, waves, and rising sun; Falcon on pine tree with rising sun; Mandarin ducks and water plantain; Pheasant and chrysanthemums -- British Museum (London)
From the museum label: Print production began with the publisher, who hired the artist, block cutter and printer. Hiroshige worked for around 90 publishers. Only a few had the means to produce his most luxurious bird-and-flower pictures. Hiroshige designed these ö-tanzaku (large tanzaku) prints for the publisher Wakasaya. His pictures give the poems an elegant setting.
