1891, Claude Monet, Poplars on the Epte -- National Gallery (London)

From the museum label: This painting belongs to Monet's series of 23 works featuring the poplar trees bordering the river Epte, south of Giverny. Determined to finish the series, Monet saved the trees from being cut down for timber. He painted this view from a boat, looking up at the slender trunks. From the top right-hand corner they loop round in an elegant diminishing curve.
