1895 (ca.), Edgar Degas, After the Bath, Woman drying herself [pastel]

From the museum label: In his later years, Degas took up the traditional motif of women bathing and invited models to pose in his studio. Unlike artificially posed Neoclassical nudes, the woman here looks as though she has been caught off-guard, or is perhaps being watched from a secret viewpoint. Modelled first in charcoal and then pastel, she leans forward, flinging one arm out to steady herself.
