1891, Jan Toorop, High Tide -- National Gallery (London)

From the museum label:

A fisherman drags his flat-bottomed boat to shore through the rough swirling sea at high tide. In the background, fishing boats battle the strong Dutch sea-wind. The Dutch-Indonesian artist Toorop often painted life in Dutch fishing villages, alternately working in both Pointillist and Symbolist styles.

Toorop was an early champion of Van Gogh, organising his first retrospective exhibition in May 1892. The vibrant yellow in Van Gogh's Sunflowers, hanging nearby and first seen by Toorop in 1890, was possibly an inspiration for High Tide.
