1882 (ca.), Edouard Manet, Woman with a Cat -- National Gallery (London)
From the museum label: Dutch-born pianist Suzanne Leenhoff (1829-1906), Manet's wife, relaxes on a sofa with their cat Zizi in her lap. The loose brushstrokes across the canvas are emphasised through the rough application of reds and blues in Suzanne's dress, which contrast starkly with the black fur of the cat. The work is considered unfinished -- Manet may have been working on it when he died.
