1845 (ca.), [Nathdwara, India], Sharad Purnima: Festival of the Autumn Full Moon -- National Museum of Asian Art (Washington)
From the museum label:
While gods and goddesses shower fragrant blossoms from above, four gopis dance with excitement. With arms raised high and hands clasped together, they are surely joining Krishna in the divine circle dance (raas lila). Peacocks, parrots, and doves overhead and fish and egrets in the river below are transfixed by their delight.
This pichwai was once part of a pair that flanked a Pushtimarg icon in a temple setting.
