1911, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Approaching Löbtau Train Station [Bahnhofseinfahrt, Bahnhof Löbtau] -- Albertina (Vienna)

From the museum label: Approaching Löbtau Train Station belongs to the group of Kirchner's cityscapes, a subject the artist revisited repeatedly. Modern technological structures, the railway, and train stations were part of the image of a lively metropolis. It is one of the last compositions Kirchner painted in Dresden before he went to Berlin in 1911. The conspicuous colour harmony of subdued green and violet tones marks his departure from the clear, powerful palette of his earlier paintings and anticipates the work of his years in Berlin, when he would use nuanced shades of broken colours. Instead of canvas, Kirchner resorted to a work coat as a support for this picture.
