1885, Alfred Sisley, Moret: the Banks of the River Loing -- Albertina (Vienna)
From the museum label: Alfred Sisley, an Impressionist of the first hour, devoted himself exclusively to landscape depictions. He worked outdoors throughout his life and consistently stuck to an idyllic perspective and approach. He was primarily fascinated by how nature incessantly transformed due to the constant change of light and shade and by the atmospheric moods related to such phenomena. Sisley was mainly interested in the rural surroundings of Paris, with their picturesque hamlets and river valleys. The village and the environs of Moret-sur-Loing, with its riverbanks and bridges, numbered among his favourite motifs.
