1936, Zhao Shao'ang, Tiger lily -- Museum für Asiatische Kunst (Berlin)

From the museum label: The splendid lily blossom, accompanied by two buds, fascinated the artist so much that he placed it in a solitary position on the painting surface. No other plant or insect distracts from its impressive, elegant appearance. The precisely balanced composition reaches its climax in the flower, which is executed with particular painterly finesse. The bright orange colour of tiger lilies is associated with vitality and energy. Their flowers symbolise wealth and prosperity.
