1956, Elizabeth Catlett, Niña cargando a su hermanita (lithograph) -- National Gallery of Art (Washington) (special exhibition)

From the museum label: When Catlett arrived in Mexico in 1946, she had hoped to work as an assistant to David Alfaro Siqueiros, known as one of "Los Tres Grandes," or "The Big Three," of Mexican muralism. Although they never worked together on a mural, the two were part of the same close-knit artist community and Catlett even lived for several months with his mother-in-law. In this work of a young girl carrying her sister, Catlett translated Siqueiros's painting Girl Mother (1936) into a lithograph.
