1925, John Sloan, Italian Procession, New York -- San Diego Museum of Art

From the museum label: Before moving to New York, Sloan worked as an artist-reporter for several newspapers in Philadelphia. This exposure to daily realities informed his painting, which presents the streets, saloons, and tenements of lower Manhattan. In this work Sloan depicts a community celebration and stresses the vitality and prevalence of immigrant tradition.
