From the museum label: Gropper began his career as a newspaper illustrator for the New York Tribune and published his satirical work in a variety of outlets, including Vanity Fair as well as leftist publications including The Masses, The Liberator, and Freiheit, a Yiddish publication. In this depiction of a man clipping headlines, Gropper considers the relationship between art, politics, and everyday life.
