1906 (ca.), Paul Cézanne, Still Life with Blue Pot (watercolor) -- Getty Museum (Los Angeles)
From the museum label: The still-life watercolors from the end of Cezanne's life sum up the years he spent studying light, color, and form. Here, the white cloth and jug are simply the color of the paper, made stark by the various hues covering most of the sheet. The apples were created with luminous thin washes of red and yellow, while small reserves of white paper give the effect of light reflecting off their surfaces.
