1871, Edouard Manet, Civil War [lithograph] -- National Gallery of Art (Washington)

From the museum/exhibition label:

Manet served in the National Guard during the Franco-Prussian War, experiencing the hardships of the siege of Paris during the brutal winter of 1870 - 1871. …. Civil War was reportedly based on a scene Manet witnessed firsthand and sketched from life. Underscoring the brutality of events, a National Guardsman lies dead near a barricade along with a civilian wearing striped pants.
