1974, Dairine Vanston, On Huband Bridge, Dublin -- National Gallery of Ireland (Dublin)

From the museum label: Vanston began her artistic training in London, but on the advice of Paul Henry moved to Paris, where, like Evie Hone, she studied under André Lhote. Periods in the south of France and Costa Rica influenced the vibrant colour range evident in her work. She showed publicly in Ireland for the first time in 1935, alongside Grace Henry and Cecil Salkeld. Settling back in Dublin at the outbreak of the Second World War, Vanston was associated with the White Stag Group. She also contributed to the Irish Exhibition of Living Art but, suspicious of the art market, exhibited infrequently in later years. Her studio was located just minutes from Huband Bridge.
