1859, John Faed, Queen Margaret's Defiance of the Scottish Parliament -- National Gallery of Scotland (Edinburgh)
From the museum label: The death of James IV and many Scots nobles at the Battle of Flodden in 1513 plunged Scotland into turmoil. Queen Margaret initially acted as Regent for her infant son James V. This role was forcibly transferred to the Duke of Albany after her re-marriage to the Earl of Angus in 1514 (behind her here). The Scottish Parliament demanded custody of her children and sent delegates to confront Margaret at Edinburgh Castle. She tried to frustrate their mission by closing the portcullis.
