1786, Sir Henry Raeburn, Patrick Moir -- National Gallery of Scotland (Edinburgh)
From the museum label: Moir was the nephew of the influential Rome-based Scottish antiquary, dealer and expert guide (or cicerone) James Byres of Tonley. After joining his uncle, Patrick inherited his tourist business and took custody of his art collection in 1790. He also became an independent celebrity as 'the English Banker in Rome' and a supplier of funds to Cardinal York, brother of Prince Charles Edward Stewart. Commissioned by Byres in the mid-1780s, this is the only known surviving portrait associated with Raeburn's one study visit to Italy.
