1869, Charles-François Daubigny, A View of Herblay -- National Gallery of Scotland (Edinburgh)
From the museum label: The view is of the village of Herblay, on the right bank of the Seine, seen across a bend of the river from La Frette. Daubigny was recognised for his river scenes and these influenced Camille Pissarro's paintings of the Marne. He painted on the water in a studio boat, prefiguring Monet. The plume of smoke in the distance hints at gradual industrialisation in this region.
