1874, Alfred Sisley, Molesey Weir, Hampton Court -- National Gallery of Scotland (Edinburgh)
From the museum label: Sisley travelled to London in the summer of 1874, shortly after participating in the first Impressionist exhibition. During his stay he painted a series of views of the River Thames at Hampton Court Palace. The weir was a favourite subject because it altered the flow of the river, from almost still to a bubbling torrent. The group of bathers to the left of the scene provides a sense of the river's grand scale.
