1927 (ca.), William Crozier, Edinburgh from Salisbury Crags -- National Gallery of Scotland (Edinburgh)
From the museum label: After studying in France and Italy, Crozier returned to his native Edinburgh. He frequently made the city the subject of his work as its unique architecture suited his cubist-inspired style. Crozier reduced the buildings to simple forms, defined by strong contrasts of light and shade. He depicted this view from the Radical Road on Salisbury Crags in drawings, paintings and prints. In this version, he suggests the warm sunlight by using blue and brown tones instead of monochrome.
