1520 (ca.), Titian (Tiziano Vecellio), The Virgin and Child in a Landscape with St John the Baptist and another Male Saint -- National Gallery of Scotland (Edinburgh)
From the museum label: Although traditionally described as a Holy Family, the identification of the saint dressed in red and purple as St Joseph is far from certain. For much of its history the painting was considered to be by Palma Vecchio (about 1480-1528), but Titian's authorship is now generally accepted. His passion for varied textures, naturalistic detail, and brilliant colours is particularly evident in this work.
