1885, Georges Seurat, La Luzerne (A Field of Alfalfa), Saint-Denis -- National Gallery of Scotland (Edinburgh)

From the museum label: Seurat depicts a field of alfalfa in blossom in the suburb of Saint-Denis to the north of Paris. The high horizon forces the viewer to concentrate on the vibrating colour which anticipates the 'pointillism' (dots of complementary colours) of Seurat's Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte 1886 (Art Institute of Chicago). La Luzerne was formerly owned by the art critic Roger Fry, who did so much to introduce Post-Impressionism to the British public.
