From the museum label: Daubigny was one of the major landscape painters in France in the mid-nineteenth century, part of the group known as the Barbizon School. Although best known for his river scenes, he painted orchards with blossoming trees from 1857 onwards. These works were greatly admired by many of the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, especially by Vincent van Gogh, who also painted a memorable series of orchards.
