1867, Frederic Edwin Church, Niagara Falls, from the American Side -- National Gallery of Scotland (Edinburgh)

From the museum label: Church's spectacular landscapes of the Americas, Europe and the Near East were immensely popular during the later nineteenth century. Based on a sepia photograph and a drawing of 1856, this picture was commissioned by the New York dealer Michael Knoedler and exhibited to great acclaim in Paris in 1867 and in London in 1868. This is the only major Church in a European public collection and was gifted by the prominent Glasgow-born New York financier John Stewart Kennedy (1830-1909).
