1892, Louis-Eugène Boudin, Villefranche Harbour -- National Gallery of Scotland (Edinburgh)

From the museum label: During the 1890s, Boudin spent the winters in the south of France because the warm climate allowed him to continue painting outdoors. He recorded many views of Villefranche, then an important naval port. The sailors in this painting have disembarked for a compulsory medical check-up at the building on the jetty. Yet, the real subject of the painting is the quality of light found in this part of France.
