1886 (ca.), Gustave Caillebotte, Sunflowers along the Seine -- Legion of Honor (San Francisco)
From the museum label: A frieze of golden sunflowers dwarfs the view of the river conveyed in rhythmic brushwork across the water's surface. An accomplished sailor and boat designer, Caillebotte purchased a home along the Seine at Petit-Gennevilliers, near Argenteuil, a popular site for regattas. The prominently featured flowers and lively color palette suggest a passion for the garden that Caillebotte cultivated there and often used for painting en plein air.
