1874, Claude Monet, Sailboats on the Seine at Petit-Gennevilliers -- Legion of Honor (San Francisco)

From the museum label: Painted outdoors in the year of the first Impressionist group exhibition, this work depicts pleasure boats moored on the Seine at Petit-Gennevilliers, a suburb of Paris, where sailing was popularized from the mid-nineteenth century. The view seems to be from a position on the water, and it has been suggested that this canvas is the picture seen on the easel in Édouard Manet's famous Monet Painting in His Studio Boat (1874, Munich, Neue Pinakothek).
