1963, Andy Warhol, Triple Elvis [Ferus type] -- San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

From the museum label: Fascinated by celebrity, fame, and glamour and captivated by Hollywood, early in his career Warhol made a number of spray-painted silver canvases depicting film stars, including a 1963 series based on a promotional still of Elvis Presley from the 1960 Western Flaming Star. Featuring oversize images of Elvis striking a pose in character as a cowboy, this work slyly recasts the popular masculine ideals projected by Hollywood. Silkscreened at different intervals and with varying density, the bodies at times overlap, remain separate, or merge, creating what Warhol called a "jump effect," animating the figures and giving the composition a cinematic feel.
