1927, Pierre Bonnard, Flowers on the Mantelpiece at Le Cannet -- Phillips Collection (Washington) (special exhibition)

From the exhibition label: In the upstairs sitting room at Le Bosquet, Marthe approaches a vase of anemones on the mantelpiece. Almost everything in the painting is some shade of yellow, from the painted wall to Marthe's yellow dress. Even the white cupboard glows with borrowed hues. Our attention is captured by the shiny blue vase filled with anemones, blue, white, and red--the tricolore of the French flag--and their curvaceous green stems.
