1780 (ca.), Urakami Gyokudō, Enjoying the Quiet Forest -- National Museum of Asian Art (Washington)

From the museum label: Urakami Gyokudō painted in a manner that evokes the carefree nature of literati artists who drank alcohol to loosen the spirit and create works that were visceral and immediate. But Gyokudō's method was also carefully crafted. In 1806, he purchased a copy of the Palm of the Hand Album of Smoke and Mist, which includes ten landscapes by the Chinese painter Li Heng (act. ca. 1790-1820s), inspiring a series of his noted works. Once owned by artist Ike Taiga (1723-1776), this album was shown to many painters in the Osaka area.
