From the museum label: In the final act of the play Ghost Story of Yotsuya on the Tokaido, Oiwa gets her revenge on her wicked husband, lemon, and his associates for all the wrongs they have committed against her. Oiwa was born in the year of the rat, according to the Chinese animal zodiac, and sends swarms of rats to torment her enemies. When lemon's henchman Akiyama Chõbei comes to visit lemon to deliver a precious document, Oiwa strangles him to death with a tenugui hand towel that she wraps around his neck.
