1867 (ca.), Wada Gozan, Waka poem with painting of flowering branch -- National Museum of Asian Art (Washington)

From the museum label: In addition to being a significant influence on Tessai, Rengetsu collaborated with Wada Gozan on several works. A painter by training, Gozan joined the Buddhist priesthood after his wife died. He was the head priest of Jinkōin, the temple in Kyoto where Rengetsu resided. This graceful pairing of Gozan's fluid brushwork and Rengetsu's flowing calligraphy resembles raindrops falling onto flowers on a quiet evening.
