1884, James McNeill Whistler, A Little Red Note -- Dordrecht [watercolor] -- National Museum of Asian Art (Washington)
From the museum label: Whistler punctuated this vista across the Oude Maas, a river in the Netherlands, with a picturesque old-fashioned windmill. As is often the case, Whistler's title prioritizes visual style (the "red note") over accurate geography. The windmill was in fact located in Welgelegen in Zwindrecht, a town lying about seven kilometers west of Dordrecht.
