1910, Pablo Picasso, Standing Nude Woman -- Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York) (special exhibition)

From the museum label: The overall impression of this oil study, yet another rendition of a standing female nude, is that of a quickly sketched idea. Picasso executed it on a commercially prepared canvas, skipping the customary charcoal underdrawing. It is a study for the large-scale painting, Nude Woman, installed on the adjacent wall--the first panel Picasso painted for Field. The direct and graphic quality of this work makes it more legible than Nude Woman, providing a much-needed entry into one of the most abstract paintings of Picasso's Cubist period.
