From the museum label: According to the Liber Pontificalis, the Fire in the Borgo, which gave its name to this room, broke out during the year 847 in the district next to the Basilica of St. Peters. Leo IV, giving the solemn blessing from the Loggia of the Benedictions, miraculously extinguished the flames, thus saving the church and the people.
