1505 (ca.), Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino), Young Man with an Apple (Francesco Maria della Rovere?) -- Pitti Palace (Florence)
From the museum label: This painting, which reached Florence from Urbino in 1631 with the patrimony of Vittoria della Rovere (1622-1694), has been in the Uffizi since 1928. The sitter, dressed in precious clothes and a sable-lined cloak, is probably fourteen-year-old Francesco Maria della Rovere (1490-1538), adopted by the dukes of Urbino, who were unable to have children of their own and designated this boy to succeed them in leading the dukedom.
