From the museum label: The figure of St. Dominic in adoration of the crucified Christ is an image particularly close to the heart of the Dominicans and Fra' Angelico depicted it several times in the convent: in the Cloister of St. Antonino, in the cells in the dormitory's southern corridor and in this iconic image which the friars saw when leaving their cells to go about their daily business. Thus it may be seen as an invitation to face the day, and indeed the apostolate in general, fortified with love for Christ.
