1564, Paolo Veronese (Paolo Caliari), Holy Family with the Young St. John the Baptist and St. Catherine (or St. Barbara) -- Uffizi Gallery (Florence)
From the museum label: The group is portrayed as a loving family circle gathering around the baby Jesus fallen asleep in a pose of abandon. The saint on the left, probably St. Catherine of Alexandria, wears precious silk garments and holds the palm of martyrdom. The painting is remarkable for its fluid palette and sweeping, exceptionally transparent and luminous brushwork. The symbols of Christ's Passion in the sumptuous frame refer to the subject of the painting.
