From the museum label: This painting is part of a cycle of three pictures depicting a victory for the Florentines over the Sienese at San Romano near Pisa in 1432. Commissioned by Lionardo Bartolini for his residence in Florence, the cycle was later acquired by Lorenzo the Magnificent. The foreshortening of the bodies and other objects testifies to Paolo Uccello's extraordinary skill in handling perspective.
