1475 (ca.), Andrea del Verrocchio and Leonardo da Vinci, The Baptism of Christ -- Uffizi Gallery (Florence)

From the museum label: On the banks of the River Jordan, St. John baptises Jesus by pouring water on His head. The scroll announces the Saviour's coming: ECCE AGNUS DEI (Behold the Lamb of God). Two kneeling angels witness the event, one of them holding Jesus's tunic. The picture testifies to Leonardo's early career: apprenticed to Verrocchio, he is likely to have painted the angel shown in profile, the nuanced landscape in the distance and Jesus's naturalistic body, using oil paints. In the 16th century the painting hung in the church of San Salvi in Florence.
