1487, Domenico Ghirlandaio (Domenico Bigordi), Adoration of the Magi -- Uffizi Gallery (Florence)

From the museum label: Dated 1487, this picture may have been painted to celebrate the birth of the first son of Lorenzo Tornabuoni and Giovanna degli Albizzi, who were married the year before. Variety in the rendering of pose, physical feature, decoration and classicising architecture is a characteristic of the art of Domenico Ghirlandaio, a painter much appreciated by his contemporaries. In fact it was he who frescoed the chancel of Santa Maria Novella for the Tornabuoni family. It came from the Guardaroba of Palazzo Pitti to the Uffizi in 1780.
