1487, Hans Memling, St. Benedict -- Uffizi Gallery (Florence)

From the museum label: This painting and its companion, the Portrait of Benedetto Portinari, were the side panels of a triptych whose central panel depicted the Madonna and Child. The triptych was painted in Bruges by Hans Memling. The naturalism of the faces, clothing and setting, so typical of Flemish painting, had a major impact on late 15th century portraiture in Italy.
