1518 (ca.), Bachiacca (Ubertini Francesco), Descent from the Cross -- Uffizi Gallery (Florence)
From the museum label: Here, the artist depicted a scene that is infrequent in the iconography of the Descent from the Cross: to either side of Christ's cross are those of the thieves whose bodies are being taken away by the soldiers. This small panel, painted for a monastery, is the more complex and detailed version of an altarpiece Bachiacca executed a few years earlier. It is also evidence of the artist's propensity to reproduce images in series as well as his ability to enrich them with subtle changes and additions.
