1565 (ca.), Titian (Tiziano Vecellio), Virgin and Child -- Gallerie dell'Accademia (Venice)
From the museum label: The unusual presence of a burning bush in the background to the left is a reference to a miraculous episode mentioned in the Old Testament. The Book of Exodus describes how Moses saw a burning bush alight with a divine flame that never went out, just like the Virgin, who carried her child preserving her purity. The pictorial execution with rapid, overlapping brushstrokes is representative of Titian's maturity with the color impasto starting to render the brilliance of light.
