1515 (ca.), Hieronymus Bosch, Visions of Hereafter (2 of 4) -- Gallerie dell'Accademia (Venice)

From the museum label: Originally part of polyptych whose subject was possibly the Last Judgment, these panels show life after death. In Heaven, the sinless are made to inhabit a lush, verdant garden; in Hell, sinners are depicted drowning in a sulfurous swamp. The other two panels describe moments of transition, with souls accompanied by angels towards a tunnel of light leading to beatitude on one side, and souls falling from a cliff into eternal damnation on the other.
