1583, Paolo Veronese (Paolo Caliari), The Coronation of the Virgin -- Gallerie dell'Accademia (Venice)
From the museum label: How did Veronese manage to include over fifty figures in the relatively limited space of this painting? To celebrate All Saints, to whom the church was entitled, Veronese arranged prophets, apostles, evangelists, saints, and Church Fathers in decreasing semicircles, hovering above the clouds. In the top section of the painting, we see the Virgin being crowned and greeted in Heaven by the Holy Trinity. Her humble countenance was an example to the Cassinese nuns who owned the church.
