1925, Georgia O'Keeffe, Grey Tree, Lake George -- Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York)

From the museum label: Throughout the 1920s O'Keeffe spent several months of each year (from spring to fall) at the Stieglitz family estate in Lake George, New York. Trees-maples, pines, poplars, and birches-were abundant there. O'Keeffe portrayed them singly or in groves and often reflected the changes of the seasons in their colors. When she later moved to New Mexico, trees-particularly yellow cottonwoods-were again a source of inspiration.
