1894, Berthe Morisot, L'Hortensia dit aussi Les Deux sœurs (Hydrangea also known as The Two Sisters) -- Musée d'Orsay (Paris)
From the museum label: Towards the end of her career, Berthe Morisot sometimes asked professional models to pose for her rather than friends and family, as is the case here. She depicts two dreamy-looking young girls just emerging from adolescence and uses a flowering hydrangea to symbolise how they are blossoming into womanhood. Her style of painting has changed. Her brushstrokes are longer and more fluid, the figures are more monumental, and her colour palette is moving away from the plein air painting she has practised until now.
